Vietnam construction steel standards include standards related to quality, size, structure, and other technical parameters of steel, which are synchronized and unified. This means ensuring the safety of construction projects and at the same time minimizing unwanted risks during construction and use.

Vietnam construction steel standard TCVN 1651-1:2018 applies to plain round bar iron and steel
Vietnam Construction Steel Standard TCVN 1651-1:2018 replaces TCVN 1651-1:2008 and sets out technical requirements for plain round bar steel used in concrete reinforcement, applicable to steel types CB240- T, CB300-T and CB400-T. The manufacturer decides on the method of steel production.
Applicable only to straight bar products, plain round steel bars in coils and straightened products, this standard does not apply to steel made from steel plates or railway rails.
TCVN 1651-2:2018 for rebar steel bars
Vietnam Construction Steel Standard TCVN 1651-2:2018 replaces TCVN 1651-2:2008 and sets out technical requirements for rebar steel used in concrete reinforcement, applicable to CB300-V steel types. to CB600-V. Manufacturers choose their own manufacturing technology.
Applicable only to straight, coiled or straightened products, not applicable to rebar steel from railway steel rails or plates.
TCVN 1651-3:2008 applies to welded steel mesh rolls or panels
Vietnam Construction Steel Standard TCVN 1651-3:2008 replaces TCVN 6286:1997, setting out technical requirements for welded steel mesh panels or rolls produced from steel wire and bars (diameter 4-16mm). This product is used as regular concrete reinforcement or initial reinforcement in prestressed concrete and is produced in manufacturing plants.
TCVN 1811:2009 applies to steel and cast iron
Vietnam Construction Steel Standard TCVN 1811:2009 regulates the procedure for sampling and testing steel and cast iron samples to analyze chemical composition. This is a standard that applies to both metals in solid and liquid states.
TCVN 6287:1997 applies to steel bars for concrete reinforcement
Vietnam construction steel standard TCVN 6287:1997, equivalent to ISO 10065:1990, sets out requirements for testing procedures for bending and incomplete re-bending of concrete reinforcing steel bars. The objective is to determine the aging properties of steel when subjected to plastic deformation.
TCVN 7937-1:2013 applies to steel for prestressed concrete reinforcement
Vietnam construction steel standard TCVN 7937-1:2013 is equivalent to ISO 15630-1:2010, replacing TCVN 7937-1:2009 (ISO 15630-1:2002). This standard sets forth requirements for testing methods for bars, rods and wires used as concrete reinforcement.
Vietnam Construction Steel Standards 2024
In addition to the Vietnam Construction Steel Standards TCVN, which applies to the latest types of concrete reinforcement steel today, there are also the following widely used Standards:
ASTM International: Is a set of international technical standards issued by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and widely accepted by the international community. Popular ASTM standards include ASTM A53, ASTM A106, and ASTM A615.
ISO 9001: Is a set of international standards for quality management systems, providing principles and requirements to help businesses establish and maintain high quality performance. Popular ISO 9001 standards are ISO 9001:1987, ISO 9001:1994, ISO 9001:2000, ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2015.
BS: A set of British standards produced by the British Standards Institute, with more than 31,000 published standards. Popular BS standards include BS4504, BS 21 and BS EN 10255:2004.
JIS G: Is a set of Japanese industrial standards, applicable to metallurgy and iron-containing materials. Popular JIS G standards include JIS G3101:2004 SS400, JIS G3112:2010, JIS G3192:2000, JIS G3312:2012, JIS G3322:2012, JIS G3444 and JIS G3505.
Classification of construction steel
To conveniently identify types of construction steel, people classify them based on many factors such as chemical composition, intended use and quality of the steel.
According to chemical composition:
– Carbon steel: Accounts for a large proportion of total steel production, divided into high-carbon steel and low-carbon steel. Low-carbon steel (carbon content does not exceed 0.25%) is flexible and malleable, but has relatively low hardness and strength. Steel containing a lot of carbon (content not exceeding 2.14%) has good durability and the ability to withstand high pressure.
– Alloy steel: Has higher strength than carbon steel, divided into low, medium and high alloy steel.
– Structural steel: Usually has large volumes and is used in the construction industry, assembly and mechanical machine manufacturing.
– Tool steel: Has high hardness, good strength and abrasion resistance, used in the production of household and measuring tools.
– Steel has special physical properties: It has magnetic properties and a small expansion coefficient.
– Steel with special chemical properties: Chemical properties determine the steel’s ability to withstand heat, not rust or heat.
According to steel quality:
– Normal quality: Contains 0.06% sulfur and 0.07% phosphorus.
– Good quality: Contains 0.035% sulfur and 0.035% phosphorus.
– High quality: Contains 0.025% sulfur and 0.025% phosphorus.
